2012 Tree of Hope Campaign

The power to believe!

Hi,

On November 15th, 2011, at the age of 38 years, my life toppled over. I then learned that I had a rare form of cancer, a leiomyosarcoma. As a mother of a little boy, who was 15 months old at the time, I was devastated, overwhelmed by all kinds of feelings, one of which being the fear of the unknown. The thought of leaving my family and my young son to undergo radiotherapy treatments for five weeks at Dr-Léon-Richard Oncology Centre, in Moncton, was tearing me apart. I was facing such a situation very difficult to accept, but I was determined to beat that cancer and to be there to see my son growing up.

The warm and attentive reception that I received at the Mgr-Henri-Cormier Lodge and at the oncology centre was for me a great source of comfort. When we are confronted with cancer, moral support is an important part of the battle, and every small gesture counts. Throughout my stay, I felt supported, in a reassuring and comforting environment. I met with exceptional and devoted persons who brought me support and encouragement throughout my treatment. I developed friendships with persons suffering from cancer and going through similar realities to mine. To see that some of them had succeeded at beating cancer, and sometimes several, gave me the inner strength and the courage to fight.

Please support and give generously to the Tree of Hope campaign. Funds gathered during this campaign are invested in our province to improve the well-being of the patients struggling against cancer, to contribute to the development of care and health services at the Dr-Léon-Richard Oncology Centre, and to support research efforts geared towards eliminating cancer. For me, the Tree of Hope wonderfully illustrates that everything is possible when we believe in it!
